How to Reach Lava from Siliguri: Routes, Timings, and Key Stopovers

Lava, perched at a cool 7,200 feet in the Kalimpong district, is one of North Bengal’s most beloved offbeat destinations. Navigating the winding mountain roads is part of the adventure, but knowing the best route ensures a smooth start to your homestay retreat.

Route Options from Siliguri / NJP

1. Via Gorubathan (The Preferred Route) This is the most scenic and direct route for travelers heading straight to Lava. The journey covers roughly 95 to 100 kilometers and usually takes around 3.5 to 4 hours by road, depending on traffic and weather conditions.

The Route: NJP/Siliguri → Sevoke → Odlabari → Damdim → Gorubathan → Lava.

Key Stopovers:

Sevoke Coronation Bridge: A historic architectural marvel over the Teesta River, perfect for a quick photo stop.

Gorubathan: Often called the gateway to the Neora Valley, this spot is ideal for stretching your legs, sipping some local tea, and enjoying the lush green landscapes of the Chel River valley and Fagu tea estate.
